Convaid, Inc. - Crash Testing


Through the use of special materials and a ground-breaking design, we have created a wheelchair that is tough enough to endure tremendous stress but still light and easy to use. We have our own crash test facility built specifically to duplicate the WC-19 conditions for preliminary testing. We then validate the results by crash testing our models at a leading University in Michigan.
	During a test a fully loaded chair is accelerated down a 140’ track at 30 MPH and brought to a controlled impact, creating 20 g’s. In other words, everything weighs 20 times its original weight (our 170lb dummy weighs 3400lbs during impact). Convaid has been designing transit chairs since the 1970’s. We were the first to create a wheelchair designed specifically for use in a moving vehicle. We invented the red tie down anchors and non-removable instruction card. We were the first to use the term, “Transit Chair.” When it comes to transit wheelchairs, there is no company more dedicated to safety.


Convaid Wheelchairs are WC-19 Compliant! Crash tested in accordance with Annex A, ANSI/RESNA WC/Vol.1 Section 19, and found to meet or exceed the performance requirements of subsection 5.3
